BN-20 Ink Waste Tank Full...But it's brand new!

Today we replaced the ink waste tank in our little Roland BN-20 as the old one said it was 90% or more "full". We removed it and replaced it with a new one, but the BN-20 application still registers the tank as full.

We initially thought the tank was chipped, but it's not. We have actually taken them apart before and emptied it ourselves, put it back together to find it works just fine. Then when we got the new one, we compared the weight to the one we emptied to the new one and ours was significantly heavier even though we had emptied it. We assumed it was based on weight...But regardless it still registers as full.

My money is on ink being somewhere it is not supposed to be that is tripping a sensor which detects how full the ink tank is. Any tips on how we might resolve the problem? We have factory reset the printer, switched it off and on, power cycled it, cleaned it, reinstalled the BN-20 software and drivers, re-initialized VersaWorks, in the vague straw grasping idea that it may make a difference.

I can't think of anything else :(

Put the old waste tank back in. You will need to run it until the printer stops when the tank is 100% full, then change it. The BN-20 utility will ask you did you change the tank, you will say yes, and the counter will be reset.

No point in changing it early, just have an extra on hand when it does go empty.

Yep!

Turns out the waste tank system is dumb. Ink is not measured in the tank, but by how many cycles the pump that pumps it in has done.

We will be rigging up a tube and bottle system in the very near
