Brand new S60600: Grainy/Fuzzy Output

We just got a new S60600. Head alignment checks via the panel are dead on and everything else is dialed in. Regardless of rip settings, profiles, lots of trial and error, and doing everything imaginable the S60 is not producing clear sharp type like our old S30670 does. Nowhere close.

DecisionOne deployed a very rudimentary technician (not the first time) who offered no solutions and no improvements after 4 hours of tinkering. Barely knew his way around the machine. I have a support ticket in with ONYX and have sought the opinions of several other experienced, knowledgable professionals, all who have said the same thing: there should not be an expectation for a decrease in output quality on the S60600.

Anybody else experience a degradation of sharpness and clarity on their S60 compared to the S30? This looks pretty awful. Using the ONYX 12 rip queue w/ simple .eps file exported out of Illustrator.

Try using this file "ONYX Quality Evaluation.pdf" on both of your Epson machines as found in one of your Onyx folders. It is the file the setup technician should have printed for your approval and signature before he left the building. Try to be sure media is properly loaded and set accordingly.

Upload photos of each if you find the time.

Your pre-heater looks like it is up too high... the media is buckling in the first 60600 image.
The printer is trying to print over a "hill" of vinyl causing at least the issue in the first photo.

Heater settings are good. No buckling whatsoever, with these new Epsons I don't see how that would even be possible. The fluctations in the horizontal widths on the font characters are sporadic and not media related. That is the whole problem. No media profile or adjustments to any profile will improve the output. See scans from the Onyx test files below.

Your S30 is a 1 head machine, and the S60 is a two head. Could it be that two heads are harder to have perfect line-up ?
You've done the auto media adjustment as well?

What media are you printing to? Usually the printers we've purchased have come with "sample rolls" of 180mc.
I've seen really crappy prints like that on really cheap vinyl, but never on anything else besides latex printers with bad heads.
An s60600 shouldn't have a print like that ever, ours NEVER did right out of the box.

We keep our heaters set low in the print area and set the post heater at like 122 degrees.

Temps are 104° 104° 122°, same settings we have used for years on the S30 using several different calendered adhesive vinyl films. The output quality (or lack thereof) is near identical regardless of which media/profile setting combination is being used, including the 3M sample rolls that shipped with the S60.

Multiple techs including Epson have been involved and have tweaked numerous settings and media profiles through trial-and-error processes since late last week with no solution yet. Pretty underwhelmed with the whole thing so far, equipment and support. The new Epson shipped with downtime, headaches, workflow interruptions and delayed turnaround times.

Where are you at in the USA? Our local vendor is really helpful, but Epson really should take care of this issue for you quickly/easily.
We have our 70675 and also our 60600 and the 60600 has way better quality and speed. Blows the older model away.
We run Onyx here also, and I believe we had to upgrade our Onyx to version 12.2 when we purchased our 60600. We have since upgraded to the newest version as that version was quite glitchy.
PM me if you think I can help you any more that way than replies on here.
