Business Cards with Raised Lettering

It is called Thermography.

While many here use the online solution (due to it being cheaper) for outsourcing business cards; I recommend calling local printers & seeing what they are capable of. Then, let them know what you're capable of. So, when they receive a request for something they cannot do (and YOU can) they can start sending referrals your way. One referral should MORE than make up for the small profit margin on business cards that you will save from an online retailer.

As a former business card specialist, thermography is the redneck of the business card world. If you want something with texture that is a bit more sophisticated go with letterpress'd cards or play with uncoated stock and spot uv.

Exactly so. 'Thermography', also known as 'Virkotype', among other things, is merely sprinkling plastic powder on wet ink then heating it so it melts. It's not done because it looks good, it's done to increase production time and concomitantly lower the price. The vendors of such of course sell it a some sort of classy raised lettering in lieu of actual embossing. Sort of like selling the sleaziest vinyl upholstery in lieu of real leather.

If you want a classy looking business card do actual embossing and letterpress on quality stock.

We use BCT (Business Cards Tomorrow) out of Denver. They do a great job with thermography as well as full color work. They are wholesale to the trade only.

BCT is who we used as well when forced into thermo despite our best efforts. Wisconsin is full of insanely high quality print shops and letterpress houses yet some people still wanted their business cards to look like their daughter made them with puffy paint...

An online company called T-RexCards does thermography business cards exclusively. They also have a low price guarantee, I've ordered from them before multiple times and have been fairly pleased.

They don't offer some bells and whistles (can't print in more than 3 colors raised for instance) but they seem to offer the lowest prices on the offerings they do have... might be worth a look for you.

It's actually a good kind of business card. But just make sure that the design fits well with the differently-textured card.
