Buying my next printer

On a somewhat related note, how are those things for sitting? I know they're designed for high volume but what happens in use cases where volume is sporadic? I know logically it doesn't makes sense to get one and not push it hard everyday, just curious how UVGel compares to other technology when it comes to sitting idle.
Good question. We have 3 of them. They're not always busy, and sometimes one or two of them will go a couple days without much or any use. The main thing is you don't want to let your ink expire. But they don't seem to have any problem sitting for a few days without much or any printing.

I think the printer is pretty good at sitting, I've had mine down for 14 days down for repairs (it was not running automatic cleanings or mixing ink for those 2 weeks) and it printed perfect after repairs were finished. Also had a week or so without power here in TX. again fired up and printed perfect after a week of no power. Only thing to watch for is the ink expires in 6 months. I've also taken a 9 day vacation with no printing, printed perfect after that

Yes on the ink expiration! A tech told me to wait until the ink is fairly low to replenish it - maybe in the 5-10% range? Otherwise, the printer averages out the expiration dates, so you end up with an earlier date in the printer than what's on the bottle. Maybe MarkSnelling can verify?

Yes it does average out the expiration date, I go through a set of ink every 1-2 weeks so my expiration date stays around 6 months ahead

Thank you the insight. How is the consistency on color profiles? Since work with a lot of fleet wraps so consistency in colors is very important to us.
its actually really good, i don't reprint files often but the few times I've have the color is very accurate. also matches my PDF 99% for most jobs.

This is our experience as well. With 3 Colorados, we can print on any machine and achieve the same color. The profile pantones are really good - not perfect, but as good as I've seen in canned profiles.

I can say with confidence that the vast majority of my customers printing on vinyl, paper, and banner are spending around $.08/ft2. There are others on this page who really get specific in their profiles and get their ink costs down to $.05/ft2. We have one high-end canvas producer who prints in specialty mode and he is closer to $.20/ft2 but that's all he prints.

I've got a customer over by JMU I can introduce you to. He's got two Colorados. You can meet with him as he is usually always open to meet new people and discuss tech. Let me know and I'll set it up.
Thank you so much for the input once again. I would be honored to meet your customer.
