caldera vs onyx

Ok, I need to buy a new rip. I would like to know the difference between caldera vs onyx. Most dealer in Montreal sell onyx but I've found two dealer who have caldera.

So what should I take and why? I start asking here because I even don't know what kind of questions to ask to the dealers.

I think Caldera is Mac, Unix and Linux only. Onyx is Windows only.
I'm thinking about giving Caldera a try and getting Parallels off my Mac Pro once and for all.
