Cant get this file to open in Corel X3

If the file opens at all in CD X3, try this-

Try exporting the file to .eps format, then re-opening it. Unfortunately, you'll lose a lot of Corel Draw' goodies, but it may save some hard work.

I have the same problem once in awhile. I started on CorelDraw8, then 11 and now X3. I haven't been able to correlate the problem to any specific version.

Occasionally (rarely), I open a file in Corel Draw X3 to find just a blank screen. Opening the object manager shows the objects are there, but I can't add attributes like color, line thickness, etc. no matter what I do. I tried saving the files to previous versions, copying objects to a new page, etc. The only thing that got back any of my data was the export to .eps and reopen. Not entirely satisfactory, but better than starting from scratch. I'm mostly in the sticker business so I've never tried to recover colors.

Did you generate it?

If not it could be X4.

zip it and attach it to your post. I'll give it a try.

Jester- that's a kind offer. I can't speak for midnightmadman, but all of the CDR files I've had problems were worked on and saved by me, so no chance of X4 files here. Sometimes, I go back to open files up to 10 years old. I don't know which version I saved them in, but it's 8, 11 or X3. Not too keen to spend the bucks on another upgrade but I'm sure Corel will dig deeper into my pockets if I go to Windows 7.

One quick question, though- is there any way to set Corel Draw's default "save as" version to an earlier version- say 10 so some of my older computers can open them without the extra step each time I save? I do my editing on newer, faster computers and my cutting with dedicated older computers because of the lack of serial ports on newer ones and the fact that my cheapo (Artcut) cutting program locks up the computer while it's cutting. Sometimes (okay, a lot) I find problems after the first cut and want to modify the CDR file on the dinosaurs- which I haven't chosen to upgrade because of dollars and RAM limits.

QualitySigns, I'm referring to .cdr files that I have personally generated and saved. About a dozen times (out of thousands of file openings with hundreds of files in 3-5 years since the first occurrence), I've opened the file to what looks like a blank page. The objects show up on the object manager, and can be selected with the cursor, but no amount of cajoling will add line thickness, color or other attributes. Suggestions welcome- exporting to .eps loses too much of my work.

Jester- Thank you very much!

Did you get it open? If not send me a copy and I will give it shot. Also you might look for your autobackup file and try to open it.

Hi. I saw your message about opening a corel x3 file that has an invalid object. I have tried everything and cannot open my file. It contains a barcode which I think might be the problem. Any suggestions
