can't install plotter or edge in composer 2.6

My old computer that runs my gerber setup died.

So, I took out an old XP machine and loaded the software. Everything loaded fine and I can run the software.

When I was installing the software, I was instructed to select the plotter and printer.

I was presented with a dialog that had 2 list. The top list has a list of available plotters to add. I highlighted the plotter I wanted and said "ADD" It gave me another box that said I could keep the name they were suggesting of change it to something different. I kept the suggestion and pressed OK.

It went back to the original dialog box with the 2 list. It seems to me that the bottom box should now have the plotter I chose, but nothing. Then when I run the software and try to output the design, it says no plotter selected.

Anybody know what I'm doing wrong

did you run the config and turn ECP etc 'off' for the port you have them in?

Sorry, but I don't remember how to run config. There doesn't seem to be any way to access Composer except for an icon the install put on the desktop. Nothing in the start menu and no tray. This was a 2.6 disk that upgraded from 1.5. Should I have installed from the 1.5 disk and then overwrite it with the 2.6 ? I also can't setup the plotter for the same reason

nothing in your system tray?

Changed the monitor.... Yes, I do have a system tray

Right clicked on tray and chose to install a printer. I highlighted gerber edge. I had LPT1 as an option. I clicked on add. It gave me another window that said I can change the name or use what they suggested. I chose the default and clicked OK.

It came back to the original window, and I would have expected to see the printer in the installed box. ( bottom box ) But nothing there.

It's a usb and I think it's working because I can run the software. ( not in demo mode )

That would be a correct conclusion. I was just double checking that you weren't trying to use the old dongle from 1.5. It was disabled when Omega was upgraded to version 2.0 or later and replaced with the purple USB version.

I would check your port configuration through Control Panel for correct settings and that your USB port is set to never go to sleep in the power saving settings. The config referred to earlier is the Sentinel Config that looks for your dongle. It is accessed from Start > Programs > Gerber Omega > Sentinel Config. If you can't find it, here's a direct path to it: "C:\Program Files\Common Files\SafeNet Sentinel\Sentinel System Driver\SetupSysDriver.exe".

The idea with it is to have it only look for where the dongle is and to have it not look where your Edge is plugged in.

Your screen may look a bit different than mine which is from Omega 5, but the idea is the same.

My screen looks about like yours.
It has 2 entries, first line says port type = ECP and it says no
2nd entry says port type = USB and says yes to use
