Can't open an important EPS file, any tips?

Finally tracked down a logo I'd been trying hard to find but the sender could no longer open the EPS file and I can't either. Usually if something won't open in Illustrator (CC) I can figure out some way to open it in Preview (I'm on a Mac) and save it as a PDF but even that won't work. Any help appreciated here.

What kind of error message do you see when it fails to open?
You might try opening an new blank file in Illy and then placing the eps there.

Try Corel.

The following error messages come up:

ILLUSTRATOR
The file is in an unknown format and cannot be opened.

PREVIEW
Postscript Conversion Error
The PostScript file could not be converted to a PDF file.

Tried placing it in a blank Illustrator file but the same error message came up. I don't have Corel.

It may not even be an EPS.
See if you can open it in a text editor.
EPS files usually have info in the header.

Textedit was the only thing I could open it with and there was no info in the header. I opened another working EPS file with it and there was info in the header as you said. Where to from here? Any ideas?

How large is the file?
Maybe post it up.

I think there are different varients of eps. Can you import or open "generic eps" or any varients?

I don't use a Mac but on a PC I'd change the exension to jpg or whatever and see if that opened.

It might be a later version of illustrator. We have had the same error when we tried to open a later version. Are you running cs6.

It could be a Photoshop EPS.

Flexi eps' are sometime goofy and won't open.
