Capping station or just new caps?

Jim Hill

New Member
When I have the heads parked on the capping station and I connect a syringe to each drain line below the capping station I am getting cyan and black without any problem.

When I connect the syringe to the other tube for the magenta and yellow head I do not get anything but I do hear air being sucked into the syringe.

My question is do I replace the complete capping station or just the cap tops?

A test print shows both black and cyan printing with almost no dropout at all but the magenta and yellow are not printing.

I have now parked the heads over the capping station and clamped off both lines below and filled the capping station with Roland cleaning fluid and let it sit overnight.

I am thinking my problem is a bad seal in the capping station.

Do I replace everything or just the cap tops?

first just rotate the cap tops to prove or disprove it the cap top is to blame. swap them. also, paint the top of the MY cap with black ink. the seat the carriage. look at the bottom of the carriage to make sure the cap is lining up. also the springs in the capping station may be getting weak on that side. if so, just take them out and stretch them a bit (that is if it is a cammed set up? not sure what your printer has). also you can shim up your station. cammed stations are a pain. on my jv3 i have two razor blades as shims on the far right because the station never quite gets a solid compression on that side. some people put some tape on the finger that makes contact with the carriage to make the station cam up a bit earlier. you just have to diagnose what is going on specifically on your machine. do you have an auto stethoscope to listen specifically where the air leak is?

one other thing. do a pull at the cap, have a partner push up slightly on the cap as a test if you just need a bit more compression. if so, blame the springs or shimming.

Cap tops

Start with the cap top and make sure you do the proper adjustments per the tech manual. Rolands are one of the few printers that have a motorized system to raise and lower the caps on their printers. I have the manuals if you need one, I also sell the parts on my site

Just wanted to let you know that I did just what you said by removing the springs from under the cap top of the head that was giving me trouble.

I just stretched the spring a little bit and then I put it right back together and did a test print and the test print is perfect!!!!!!!!!!!

There is zero drop out for all the colors.

The problem was with the seal on the cap top.

I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to walk me through the process of figuring out just what the problem was and how to fix it.

Thanks a million Jim Hill

your welcome. i've heard you can order "just the springs" probably almost free. i'd get some in house but for now you should be fine for several months to a year.
