CDR file in Illustrator Problem

I'm trying to open a customer's cdr file in CS3 Illustrator. I can't open it or place it. Keep getting error messages saying that it is in an unknown format and can't be opened or placed. Any thoughts?

Try to convert the file to a PDF and then bring it into illustrator.

You could also have your customer save file as Illustrator from Corel.

Acrobat wouldn't convert the file to PDF - which makes me wonder if the file is corrupt. I've called my customer but the person who "knows how to do that" is out. I told them that I'm on hold until I hear back from them.

Thanks for the offer rcook. My assistant was able to open it on his home computer and email it back.
