Change sponge?

Doing a manual clean on our xj540, noticed the sponge next to the capping stations is pretty black. We have a replacment sponge and the t shaped one that is apparently underneath the top sponge. looks like i just need to take one screw off and replace the sponges. couldn't find anything in the manual or on here about this procedure, seems pretty simple but i want to make sure i don't screw something up. Has anybody replaced these sponges? What's the procedure?

I change mine every couple years. As long as ink flows through it you don't need to change it. Mine gets an ink build up and the ink hardens on the top of the sponge preventing drainage.

Unscrew the side and pull it out. There is also a t-sponge that goes into the drain tube. (at least on my model) replace that as well. Should take a couple minutes.

Keep your eyes peeled on the wiper sponge. Once that reaches it's saturation point you'll have a mess on your hands. I had to change mine after five years of running constantly, so they don't fill up too fast. Something to keep you eye one.
