Character Map help please

My sweetie just took a part time job using MSword and I am trying to help
her- she needs a box with a check in it for a document. So I found it in
wingdings- the character code is 0xFD- but my progs will only accept
numerals from the 10 key portion of the keyboard. Something I don't
understand (not unusual of course). Seems to have something to do with
Unicode? I can select>copy>paste to get it into a program but I have never
run into this before. Thanks Gene

In windows go START/PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/SYSTEM TOOL/CHARACTER MAP. Caracter map allows anyone access to special characters. It copies to the clipboard.

I've had some confusion with the character map too, and the keystroke codes I've always seen require the alt key & several numbers, but I always used the top row of numbers, not the separate numeric keypad... and those character map keystroke codes never worked until someone explained to me that I needed to use the separate numeric keypad with numlock on.

Thanks guys- I do know how to work the character map. Most fonts use
the Alt-0000 format- but not all. Jester- how did you come up with the
Alt-0254? That is what I was looking for. Thanks Gene

Corel insert character has the Alt# reference, so if you are using the same one over and over you learn it.

Thanks- I know the ones I use frequently and don't use Corel. It can be done
without the code- I will just teach her to do it that way. Gene
