Do you think you might put just a liiiiitle more effort in it?
Funny thing, the folks who live just down the street from me, the ones who's
lawn looks shabby, 2ft tall weeds. Grown over the curb and in to the street.
with the ice box on the front porch, etc... (not being judgmental, that was me
at one time). They have the best looking Christmas Lights on the block...

I have about 12,000 up now and a few more to go. I do usually try to keep the lawn mowed and I keep the icebox in the back yard where you can't see it.
