Citizen Artist

I got a book a while back called Citizen Soldier which was about WWII soldiers and how most only got about a week of boot camp before they were pressed into battle. A lot of them were killed within a few days or worse yet, got the experienced guys killed as well. The experienced guys didn't want to get to know the replacements because they knew they would be dead shortly and they didn't want to have to remember them.

For whatever reason this got me to thinking about customer supplied artwork from those that are 'starting a clothing line' and at the same time learning AI or are and 'artist' that wants to have their works put on t-shirts, banners, and everything else. Sometimes we get the 'artwork' in Word documents, sometimes an eps which contains a 1" bitmap at 72dpi. Sometimes we get vector art with thousands of curves that are smaller than the eye can detect.

Very rarely do we get a file that is good enough to work with though.

So I have come up with a name, Citizen Artist, for those that are pressed into service without the needed training or experience to do the job right. I don't want to know their name because they will probably be dead tomorrow and I don't want to be close by when it happens.

Hmmm, not real sure how you can compare the lack of time to properly train a US soldier and their subsequent death to the lack of knowledge of software by a customer.

One died protecting yours and others freedoms and the other just doesn't know beans about what you need to do your job in the easiest way possible.

Just my take on your post.

You missed the point completely.

Oh I don't think so.

I understand completely what he's saying in terms of the artwork that he may receive. I just don't see the comparison and to be point blank honest, thought it was in poor taste.

Grandfather received a purple heart from Iwo Jima and Uncle still doesn't talk about his experiences in Vietnam to this day... I still don't find his comment to be in poor taste.

... bad joke? hell yea. No snickers here, but i get the reference :)

p.s. i'd still take artwork in a word document over a napkin anyday. I appreciate any and all attempts by a customer to digitize what they want the product to look like. Saves my ass a lotta thinkin' and return phone calls.
