CL catridges how do they actually work

Hi,

Another newbie question:
So on my SP-540 and on my XR-640 there is one slot for the CL cartridge. How does that actually work? Does the cleaning fluid run thru all the channels in the heads or where does it actually clean?
Can someone explain how the CL cartridge works? Read about the headwash requiring 8 cartridges on the xr-640, that makes sense. But what does that 1 slot CL cartridge clean?

Thanks!
/Julian

SP-540 has only 4 ink slots, because it has only 4 ink channels. So no CL cartridge during normal operation.
XR has 8 channels. Depending on the ink configuration, only 7 are used by colored ink. Only then is the 8th slot is occupied by a CL2 cartridge. This is only done because otherwise it would suck air through this channel during sucking operations (cleanings) at the captop.
For headwash operation, all channels are flushed with cleaning liquid.
