Need Help cleaning Summa driving system

Benny360

tarpaulin specialist
Hello,

we are using 2x Summa S2 Plotter (140D and 160T). We are currently cutting around 50-100 meters MACTAC masking vinyl per day. We use this for labeling tarpaulin.

After a while the pinch rolls and the driving shaft is always full of glue remains and dust from the cutting. Therefore the tracking is very bad.

You do you clean the driving system?
Do you have a special fluid for the pinch rolls for protecting the rubber on it?

Is there a better solutions for the driving shaft, is very dificult to clean it. I know that one from the manuel but that doesn't work very well.

Thank you

For the knurled bottom rollers I just use painters masking tape to lift off the debris (high tack beige stuff). Same for the pinch rollers. I would test any solvents before going nuts. If adhesive is in them, alcohol could do the trick. I would avoid acid solvents.

I was told to take strips of vinyl, remove the backing and use the adhesive to clean off the lower roller. Turn the cutter off first and I do one spot at a time. Lower the roller with one upper and lower making contact and slowly pull the vinyl back and forth. I use scraps that were laminated as they don't break/tear as easy. Hopefully this makes sense.

Having had a lot of time on my hands one afternoon, I used a small paint brush to brush out the dust in one hand with a vaccuum (low suction) in the other hand, flicking the dust up. The glue residue on the rollers were removed slowly using a cloth with iso alcohol small sections at a time and a very fine pointy metal object, slowly turning each roller untill all rollers where clean and glue free. (Can't believe how new they all looked!). The iso loosened the glue a little and I scraped the rest out with this object, while wiping at the same time with the cloth.
Yes, this took much time but I love my Summa D160!

Here's a pic of the tool I use, it doubles up as my weeding tool also.

Often bad tracking is because of the pinch rollers are worn out. They are easy to replace.
