Cleaning the printhead on 9600

Is there a better way to clean the Epson 9600 printhead beside from using the control panel or printer driver?
I do not use the printer very often and when I need to use it, it take a long time to clean it and it wastes a lots of ink by doing so.
Any help would be appreciated.

also if you want to go through a lot of cleaning fluid on that printer. distilled water and bissell hard floor cleaner makes an excellent home brew cleaning solution.
