A friend of mine in the business from new york, introduced me to core draw around 1987 or 8. He was a beta site for them. So, in addition to already using ANAgraph, gerber, Signmate and some others, we started using... and got pretty good at it, but it seemed everyone was really starting to use adobe products, so we got that too. My last corel was 10. My last adobe was cs6. I honestly like illy better, probably cause I use it the most. Haven't touched corel in many years. I don't see the advantage of using 2 or 3 more or less clicks of the mouse ?? It seems to all boil down to what you like and get accustomed to, that works for you should make your decision, not how many keystrokes or clicks ya hafta make.

My feelings are corel was set up as a drawing program, hence the name, while adobe was created more for desktop everything, thus having far more tools and features. I think the natural progression is corel, then to adobe.

Wow, you must have never been in a racing event where every advantage is crucial. lol
3 clicks for one function, 3 more for another etc. adds up. I'm working 10-15 projects a day. To include proofing, plotting, weeding, applications, etc. Speed is absolutely imperative!

It doesn't bother you that you can't customize the workspace i.e. add buttons/tools, shortcuts? That you have to pay for scripts or plugins to do what the program should be able to do out of the box?

So. do you make bookoo bucks on these overnight racers ??

When I was much younger, I did a lotta race cars and yes, there were many needed the next day or in a day or so. Luckily, I weeded them out maybe 35 or 40 years ago. It was almost all hand lettering back then. If a guy couldn't wait his turn, he hadda walk. Find another sucker who'll work for nothing.

In my past job, we used corel for years. Corel draw for illustrations/images and we used Corel Ventura for brochures and our catalog. Switching to Adobe was a game changer, because InDesign is FAR superior to Corel Ventura. Plus, I was doing all of my photo editing in Adobe Photoshop (starting with 4 - and upgrading along the way). Between INDD, and Photoshop - it was only natural that we use the whole suite and make the switch from corel draw to Adobe Illustrator.
I also really used the hell out of Bridge and lightroom.
To each his own, but if you have a need for the whole suite - adobe is much better than corel products. If you are only using Corel Draw, I can see how it would feel superior to Illy.

Turns out my script doesn't work! It only creates a new bitmap to the size of the intersect.

I use Draw and Paint. Paint can do everything photoshop can do and integrates much better. In corel I can either hit edit bitmap or double-click the bitmap, paint comes up, do my thing hit save and drop back into corel without have to re-import the edited or "place".

I was sure this could be done the same way in illy/photoshop but I haven't figured it out.

Who says you cannot customize the workspace just how you want it in Illustrator? You absolutely can. I stopped trying to write scripts, because our projects vary so much I'd spend the time to write one and never use it again.

Although, I recorded an action yesterday in Photoshop for some pole banners I was prepping. It was nice.... even though I was only prepping 5 banners. :p

Well, enlighten me.
I'm seeing some things now that I can fix.
Part of the problem is that I don't have someone to sit down with and show me these things. It's much harder to learn from just watching videos.

Move the tools you want, and menus you want around to where/how you want them, then save the workspace.

New Workspace.

you can create as many as you like for different types of tasks/projects
