I have masked and painted them before.
You can dust over the application tape adhesive side with a fine coat of talcum powder before you cover the masking material, so the app.tape will release easily from your mask,
then have a heat gun & a roller to press down the mask on the awning and use very low pressure of air on your spray rig to spray paint it. You will need to have the awning at your shop,laying flat,it would be too difficult to mask & paint it on the site
