Cm-300 URGENT problem

I've had this cutter and setup the same and connected for 3 years. Running Flexi cut 8.5 v2. Suddenly the other day it starts coming up with an "er15 Parity error". I changed nothing. It's fine so long as the serial cable isn't hooked up, but I have no way of transfering files. Has a cable gone bad? Has my cutter finally bit the dust? HELP! Thanks a bunch in advance.

I have no idea but two things I'd try first

- restore windows to a point in time then it worked and see if it helps;
- replace the cable
