Does anyone know where Coca Cola type art can be purchased.
A friend of mine has a garage he is fixing up old style, and he has a breaker box he would like covered with a digital print of one of the old style signs Coke used to put out. I was just wondering if the images could be bought to print from. Thanks!

The "Coke Heads" are pretty protective of their images. They have people out looking for knock-off Coke stuff. We have alot of antique shops in the area, they come around once in a while looking for stuff just like you are planning to do.

This copyright thing has gone to seed around here. If by a "garage" you mean your friend's own garage at his house, I'd print it for him with a clear conscience. If by a "garage" you mean a public place where he repairs autos, by all means no way would I do it. I actually think some of you would accuse me of being in copyright violation when I hand painted an embossed Coke logo on an old Coke bottle vending machine for a friend who restored it. It's just beyond the point of silly.

Just do a Google image search. There's a plethora of Coca Cola images, old an new, to be found there.

A while back a high school theater teacher friend asked me to reproduce a 4 foot diameter Coca-Cola logo for a part of a set background. I contacted the local Coke company about this and was told "No problem - Thanks for asking". I collect some Coke stuff so I donated it to the school for the duration of the play and got it back afterwards. It hangs on my shop wall now.

I wouldnt even think of doing it for profit. This guy is my woodshop guy. Does all my cnc routing and keeps mdo in stock for me. He asked me about doing this, and I told him the same thing about copyright, licenses, etc. I was planning on giving it to him for a gift, cause he always get my stuff done quickly. Thanks for the help guys. Edited to add, yeah Arlo, it is his personal garage. He has a 56 ford pickup almost restored and is theming the whole garage in the 50s style.

You've got some real talent and may be able to create a mock up of an old Coke style sign. I did one a few years back for the head of our local Coca-Cola. I looked at the catalog of old style Coke signs and did one in the style of it and it came out really nice. it doesn't have to have all the details and graphics. you can use scrolls and colors to make it look vintage. or you could take a photo of his '56 pick up, Photoshop it so it looks like a painting and work from that. or you could draw the pick up yourself and work with that. making his vintage truck part of it would really be cool.

john, i do a lot of "1 off" repro........PAINTED logo stuff.......for guy who want to hang it their GARAGE.
no biggie. it is for their own enjoyment and not PUBLIC DISPLAY. if iam not mistake i seen the COCA-COLA as a font somewhere. i got a guy who has a COCA-COLA metal portable cooler.........iam gona paint the coca- cola on it.
i have been asked how much i would charge to put a SEE ROCK CITY on a roof of one of these garages.

On the copy right logos why would a company like coke care if you used there logo in a public place? wouldn't it just be free advertisement for them?

What would happen if the person painting this wasn't at all any good at painting and produced a horrible rendition of their logo ?? Doesn't look good if Coke let's it go on like this with every bonehead that wants to reproduce unauthorized logos.

What happens if someone wants to take some poetic license and change a few things, cut some corners or add a few small tidbits ??

People will do all kinds of things not intended to be used by the owner and without control over what and how things can be done by law.... you are breaking the law by not adhering to the rules or having it Okayed first by the owners of the logo.

Gonna hang it in a garage or in a kid's room... no problem. No one will ever know, but any possible public place should be honored by law. :unclesam:


Ever see all of those cartoons where Disney or Warner Bros. characters are doing the nasty deeds and they're all bad.... big time ?? Well, I'm sure those aren't considered Okay, but people do it anyway. Does that mean it's alright to do ?? Nope, just more people breaking the law and sending a good message to honest young impressionable minds and morals. :covereyes:

Interesting. Back in the late 60's/early 70's I had a dress shirt, bought at Macy's I do believe, that at first glance looked like a floral pattern. Closer inspection revealed that the 'flowers' were repeated full color images of Mickey humping Minnie. Do you suppose that Disney Inc authorized that shirt? Regardless, at the time I really liked that shirt.

Back in the day, when you would paint brands on the side of Pharmacies, corner stores and gas stations, did you get permission to use the Cheerwine, Pepsi, Martha White's logos? And who paid, the store owner of the distributor?

Just curious when and how this evolved.

bob.... I have no idea... and quite frankly, that's the sort of thing I was talking about. So I would only imagine that you contributed to this type of foul play way back then. People did..... and got away with a lot more back then. Communications were much slower and people didn't do anything to help another person get caught. Today, it seems everyone is at each others throat and will sell a person out without any hesitation.

With the introduction of the computer and especially with the help of Al Gore's internet... the whole world is a much tighter place and someone 15,000 miles away knows when you blow your nose or take a crap and if the paper was rough or not leaving any residue or drippings behind. [See the pun ??] Oh it hurts when you have to point them out...........


I guess they knew it, but that might've been the start of the Disney Porn stuff everyone was talking about a few years ago. Only a guess.
