Complaint Department...

I'll be having a hat burning party tonight for 7 hats if anyone wants to join me! New customer came in looking for 14 embroidered hats. Initially I said no because I send that out and the order was too small and I only embroider for current customers. He started 'name dropping' my Dad like they were good friends, so reluctantly I said yes.

Well, then he ordered 12 tshirts (HTV-PITA). I told him a price for the hats and he argued that it was the shirt price. Then he changed his mind on the hat design twice from the original "just my name in block print". Had to tell him no more changes or I start charging. Get the hats in and he complained that 2 were bad...I did agree, and so did the embroider lady (I only checked the first few, she's done hundreds with zero complaints). She apologized up and down, as did I. Told him we will replace the hats but I need those 2 back. He comes in with SEVEN hats and wants them all replaced. I called the embroider and she said she would do it but some of them were questionable. I agreed but at this point, we both just want to be done with him. I called him, apologized and said she is redoing 7 of them literally as we speak and will send out this afternoon, and went on to explain that she apologized, etc. I said I wasn't sure but he might be able to keep the bad ones. Suddenly...he said, I'll be right there to pick them up, to get them out of your way. I said I'm leaving. He said put them in the pick up area!!!!! I said no, we need to wait to see what she says first. He said...I'll be in Monday then to pick them up and get them off your hands. I said, "No you will not. They are staying right here until she decides if she wants them returned". He was MADDDDDDDDDD and started raising his voice. All he is doing is trying to get 21 hats for the price of 14. He might end up with 7 hats and a check for the other seven!

So anyway, she doesn't want the hats back. I don't want the hats...but HE is NOT getting the hats.

And no...he's not friends with my Dad. He sprays my Dads weeds at one of his buildings and my Dad thinks he's the cheapest, weirdest guy ever.

And then I had a new customer in and rave about the embroidery for other hats and the shirts I made. 99% of customers are great...it's the 1% that get thrown in the fire!

Oh this is so much more entertaining than the sh!t that goes down here... And f*ck him for trying to snag the free hats. Smart man would have offered anything for them if they really wanted them in good spirits, obviously this guy just figured he got away with 2 redos, now 7, now maybe 7 free...

I agree. If he had simply said, "That's nice of you to offer the hats for free, thank you." and just waited until next week to get them when he picks up the other ones he would have 7 free hats. Foolish man...now they will perish in my fire...

I learned a while ago, if someone is complaining about the quality of something and wanting a redo, we always require the originals back so we can "investigate how this happened"

There are certain people who have absolutely no shame and will do stuff like this because in their minds it's some small victory and they "got ya" requiring them to return the originals has cut down on our redos by at least 30%

Not to rain on your parade, but if you want other points of view on this then this when you stepped wrong. People hear what they want to hear, and he heard he can keep those 7 plus 7 replacements. Yes, you said "might", but like a child to him it meant "can". Enjoy your bonfire and luckily most customers are not such handfuls.

I guess I missed the notification on this thread! LOL! The hats were hunter green with light gray thread - not what I would have chosen. The camo ones were too expensive for him.

I know JBurton will enjoy this new development...

Yesterday my BF came in and saw a hat on the floor and asked if that was the jack-wagon from last week. I said yes! He lifted his sweatshirt up to reveal a tshirt with this guys business name on it...turns out this guys Dad sponsored my BF's trap shooting team! Anyway, as you would expect my story to end, my BF knows the guy and laughed as he described him.... "douche bag" "weird" "tight" "arrogant" "spoiled brat" "never worked a real job", just worked for his DAD at this business, never married, doesn't date (he's 50 but I thought he was 60). He used to shoot trap but nobody liked him and he eventually dropped out. He said don't bother doing anything more for him in the future, he's always going to try and nickle and dime you to death.

My best guess is that the sign shop in his town fired him so that's why he came by me. I'm still waiting for the new hats so perhaps there will be yet another ending...

signheremd - you hit the nail on the head - I should have NEVER said she might let him keep them, it was my own fault for opening the door! Lesson learned on that one!

Huge red flag when someone namedrops like that! I bought my shop years ago and anyone who comes in namedropping an old owner gets pay before production treatment
