Concave area around van windows

Hello!

Im about do some job on van, and i still haven found solution how to get vinyl stick to concave area around "blind" windows. I look around on other vans, and i see that problem on many vans... In a while every decals straind and came off... and that it tears and we all know how that looks... I think that all that talking about heating vinyl to 70-80 degress celzium doesnt work...

I was thinking about getting some extra liquid glue (some kind of primer) in that rivets, so it would sticks really hard. Will there be some problems with removing vinyl, when client wants another design...

How do you mount vinyl in these areas?

Just tent it, work finger around edge then cut it and lay it down flat. Don't try to stretch it. You don't need primer or anything. It looks fine and doesn't mess up the graphics. Customer will never say anything about it. Here's examples of ones we've done.

ok, but how do you cut such straight lines? do you use ruler, or do you just have so precise feeling in hand?


what about this canvas rounded with red? they also eventualy came off...

Tack center and stick inset are until you have adequate tension all around. Use edge of body line as a guide and cut straight in (perpendicular to vehicle) around channel. Make sure to keep blade straight as a slight angle may nick paint. I'd recommend using an NT cutter knife as opposed to an olfa as it has a smooth edge you can run along the body while an ofla may scratch the surface if you go in too far. Squeege in evenly and when close to edge address corners first then smooth out straight areas. Radius outer edge with finger. I'd suggest running lam tape across entire seam. Do not primer this area as dirt will stick to exposed area and it is not necessary as the vinyl is not being stretched.

For upper area primer lightly. Span entire area with film. Heat and roll with vcat down center or tack center by hand. Then heat and repeat with upper and lower channels.

Also for EnVs you need to address the black silicone vertical tracks. I do not recommend primering and sticking these areas as primer will not sufficiently adhere to silicone. You can either cut out cleanly with a ruler or stick a strip of aggressive vinyl down first (ie Arlon 8000) and then wrap over that material.

FYI - handles come off easy (rubber stopper in door jamb), rubber around side door catches and antenna pop right out, rear catches remove with screws under rear door.

and you can pop off plastic on end of sliding door track and you can wrap over the metal on door track.

That is actually white silicone. I relief cut it. I also trim out the black vertical seals where panels connect.
