Contour/Cut Line around Vector Art object group?

Hello Folks,

Is it possible in flexi to put a cut contour line around a vector object? - I have a basic Oval Decal that I have created and edited with vector objects. Multiple Colored objects, text, etc...

I want to basically put a cut contour line around the outer perimeter of the entire vector group and send it to the production manager for printing & Cutting - is this even possible?

The only way I have been able to get a contour line around the outside is to rasterize the vector art, then make the white transparent and proceed to lay the contour effect around the bitmap, and send this off to the PM.

thanks!

If you go to program file/SAi/SAi production manager suite/ readme/contor cutting guide help file and there other helpful file you will need it.

Hi there techsign33!

Thank you most kindly for taking the time to reply. I have been referencing page 3 in said "Contour Cutting Guide". Specifically the paragraph that reads:

Converting Vector Objects to Contour Cuts
Vector objects can be transformed into contour cuts. This
allows you create a contour cut of any needed shape.

To convert a vector object into a contour cut:
1. Select the object.
2. From the Arrange menu, point to Contour Cut and then select Make Contour Cut.

The object’s outline color will change to a light gray, indicating
that it has been converted to a contour cut. Even after being
converted to a contour cut, the object will have its original attributes.....

Here is what I am working with:

demo_oval.jpg.png

I Follow this Step by step instruction by selecting the object. in this case it is the outer oval of my euro decal.. Then go to arrange --> Contour cut ---> **AND FIND THAT "Make Contour Cut" Is greyed out** and am thus unable to select it. I Have tried Grouping the various vector components, but can find no way to create a contour cut around the outer oval. It must have something to do with the fact that the outer oval is two sided? (ie: has an inside and outside path).

Here is what I ended up doing (I have to believe there is a better way!)

1) selected the ring oval, copied and pasted over itself, Selected new oval and Arrange-->Convert to Outlines.
2) with the select point tool, selected the inside path of the new oval and deleted the path: Leaving me with a solid black oval the same diameter of the outer side of the original.
3) selected the new solid black oval, and in design central enlarged the oval so it outlined the original ring oval by a few cm. Selected all, and horiz/vert centered the whole mess.
4) then selected the solid black oval, and was then able to do Arrange-->Countour cut--->make cut.

I know I could have simply created a new oval using the oval tool, and followed the above steps.. however if the outline was some non-standard shape what would be the best way to replicate and create a solid vector shape of the sheer outline of the original vector object(s)? (something like using the magic wand on a bitmap shape, then creating a shape from the marquee, etc??)

--thanks again

Creating a contour cut

Sometimes you just have to draw the contour cut. I use illustrator for this and import the path to flexi. Then convert to contour cut.

I 'm not flexisign user but I hope this help this way in flexi 10.

select the design :

-arrange /convert to shape/oval now you will have red outline if you click any area in page will disappear no problem reselected by drawing big rectangle around by the select tool .
-arrange / contour cut then be ready

other way

-bitmap/vectorize/enhance curve now all be vector .
-right click choose uncompound now every part individual.
-select the oval you want move it away will be solid black.
-fil/stroke editor box will be on solid fill change to no fill now you get the red outline .
-arrange /contour cut then be ready. I dont know how it will be in cut printer because I never use it but it's look fine here.

aligment:

-select the design then while pressing shift key select the oval now both selected (no matter which first selected it's matter in another application).
-arrange/align/both centers.

Whatever is selected, go to: EFFECTS -> CONTOUR CUT and the software will automatically draw a line you can now set to the thickness you need. If you go for zero (0), than the cut will be performed right on the oval you designed.

The other place to get the Contour Cut is in ARRANGE but the line you select need to be vector, not still editable.
