corel opens with Illustrator

I never tried this before... I was given a Corel 8 file and Illlustrator CS3 opened it right up!

So here is my question for someone that has both programs. What is the newest version of Corel that opens up using Illustrator? Will it work with x3 or x2? What is the upper limit?

I have no way of testing this

Ok what about version v10 or 12? or is x2 the same as 12?

X3 imports ai files. have them send an eps.

Neither CorelDRAW X3 or X4 files can be opened in Illustrator CS4

The highest I have opened is 10... I do save down to version 8 when I am going back and forth.

I wonder if placing the file rather than opening it would open more possibilities.

x3 cannot be placed either

Looks like AI CS4 will open Corel 10 or below (tested by saving to older version in X3), although I lost some settings such as font sizes.

X2 and 12 are the same thing, 12 was officially called 12 though. I imagine Corel switched to the roman numeral representation "X3" due to the unlucky number 13 superstition, but I honestly never researched it.
