Creating Gang Runs in InDesign

Is anybody here familiar with setting up Gang Runs in Indesign?

I've been asked to see if i can setup a gang run, on a 28" x 40" sheet.

I was thinking it can be done in InDesign. Are there any specific requirements with setting up the file, and for exporting it?

1 " bleed on all edges, so the workable area is 28" x 39"

It will just be loaded with 4x6 Flyers. Setup at 4.25 x 6.25, Setup Butt to Butt, Bleed setup for cutting, finished size is 4x6.

a .25" gutter/slug in the middle of the sheet.

Are they wanting to run 32-up? Do the butt-ends have common bleed color? Can you post a picture of the flyer? Are you trying to use InDesign's booklet feature?

Really is a reason I'm asking... spent years in four-color offset printing positioning for that sheet size. If the bottom bleed is common, you'll want to butt them up without that extra 1/4" bleed. Do you know how much gripper the printer needs?

Big Dawg, Can i email you a PDF i created. Check it out and let me know if im even close to what should happen.

Its just a test setup. Its a Gang Run Print, so there will be multiple differnt flyers on there, so the edge colors WILL NOT be the same. Thats why they require a .25" bleed, .125" on each side of the flyer.

My main concern is what export requirements are necessary?

I've done it a bunch.

No matter what, make sure before it goes to press that your printer signs off on the imposition you've supplied if you're unsure of what you're doing.

I've had a printer supply me with an incorrect imposition guide before and they had to reprint the whole catalogue. Thankfully I worked from their specs and I still had their guide to toss back in their face when they tried to dodge the blame and put it on me.
