Credit Card Companies

Hi All.

I am a small business.
What are some companies where I can run a clients credit card for payments with no fee's on my end?
Most of my clients pay with paypal as I am mainly an online business. BUT I have been getting more people not using paypal and want to use a credit card.

What are my options out there? I would say I would do around 5 transactions per month.

There is no credit card processors that don't charge a fee, the question is who do they charge the fee too. You can find processors that charge client at time of purchase.

But the better method is to just add the fee to your bill or just bury it in the price of your products.

Sorry, I guess I should be more clear.

Companies where I am not being charged the fee. The client will be paying the 3%-4% whatever it is.

You can use paypal to process CC, I do it all the time.

virtual terminal tab in paypal or you can order their physical terminal

and customers don't need a paypal account to pay a paypal invoice, they can use cc

I am still on a personal account with paypal. Do you have to upgrade to a business account to use that option? Who gets the fee charged to? Thanks

Square has the option to automatically charge the customer a fee, so does PayPal, stripe, and many others... it's typically in the configuration settings.

Thanks all! Which company is the easiest to work with to get set up? Does any have a set amount of transactions you have to do? Like I said, it wont be a ton, but it would be nice to get those clients who only want to paypal with a card. The client will be charged the fee.

Square, QuickBooks, wave, and PayPal can all do what you want. You need a business account whatever you use. I've heard horror stories of personal venmo(owned by PayPal) accounts being frozen if they suspect them of being used for business.

I use the one built into QuickBooks since I can send an invoice via email and they can just click the link to enter their info.

I have used wave in the past and it works the same way.

It is technically against all credit card companies policies to pass the 3 to 4% fee onto the customer. You can get around this though by building it into your quote and offering a discount for payment methods like cash or check that don't have transaction fees.

It is not against their policies, they lost their legal fight 10 years ago and they can no longer stop you from charging a fee to accept credit cards if your state allows it. They can cancel your merchant account if they find your fee to be excessive or abusive as part of their merchant terms even if your state says it's ok to charge a convenience fee.

Yep, same thing in Canada. As much as I hate losing 3-4 points on payments, I'd rather eat that than charge customers a fee to take their money.

Most of our large customers have terms and pay EFT but all other customers pay by CC. I'd sooner have the money in our account today less 3-4% than chase people for 60-90 days.

absorbing the fee seems reasonable for smaller sales, but what do you do on jobs that are 5-10k? We just require a check or a bank transfer or ACH payment. Not sure if there is a better no or low fee option.

We've had people buy a printer with a card and in those rare cases we do add a fee if they absolutely have to use a card.

I use Wave and it has an option when I send an invoice to "turn off credit card payments" but will accept bank payments. I do that for orders over $1,000. Orders over that, if they ask then I explain I would prefer a check or I have to charge 3% because of the fees. I've never had anyone get upset with me. Most people just pay with check - if they are in business, they understand. Some just pay the fee and don't care.

Some regular clients/businesses always pay with company credit card for small-mid orders so I just add a bit to the product to absorb the fee.

charge the fee back to the customer. We have a local competitor that does that.

A lot of companies bake the fee into their pricing under $5000 and charge 3% or something over $5000.

I am a huge fan of just including the fee into your pricing. Make the transaction as frictionless as possible. Make it easy for you and your customer.

I can’t tell you how many services I have chosen because they make it easy for me to say yes.
