My understanding is XP Compatibility mode will only work with certain computer systems and you must have Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 7 Enterprise for it to work. I think it also involves running Virtual PC. Even if the work-around is successful in running CS3 it sounds like a real pain to set up and operate.

No. I have home premium and all I have to do is right click on the program's icon on my desktop, click on properties, click the "compatibility" tab and choose what version to run it in.

If you can't install the program from the get go, there is a "compatibility troubleshooter" that you can use. Too descriptive for me to get into it here.

I am working with CS3 Standard Suite and might have to go back to college for a class and hit the collage bookstore......

The best price I can find here in Canada for the (full) CS 5.5 Design Standard is $1300.00. Do you suspect that the ones like this on Ebay are legit, as claimed?

Anybody know what the duty on software brought into Canada is?

I can't really imagine using less than CS4, 4+ has made leaps and bounds in non-destructive editing across the entire suite. CS5 has a boatload of Illustrator things, the primary tool most sign guys rely on and CS4 added multiple artboards and smart guides which are so primary in my working style now that working in CS3 would be a huge productivity hit.

Just went from CS4 to CS5.5 - so far I like it. It seems more stable. (This might also have something to do with also upgrading to 16gigs of ram at the same time.) There are also some new toys in illustrator that I haven't had time to figure out yet. Problem is, if you go too long, they gouge you on the upgrade. I figure every two versions will be about right for me.

It's also nice to know that I won't have to call or email people about saving it in a legacy format for a while now. That gets old.

I still have to have some people save it in EPS 3 if they are using Draw instead of Illustrator, but I hear you on the legacy format issues.
