Need advice on what cut vinyl material that is compatible to use for an awning (fabric), and would last for a long time.

Everything I've ever seen that resembles "cut vinyl" has been heat applied.

If it is actual fabric as opposed to a pvc material, screen-print or paint (or heat transfer)

It will work for about a year or so ... Why I get fabric awnings to paint, most shops here in Orlando go cheap, so I get to paint them.

Had to stop last week a couple guys were trying to put a cut vinyl stencil up & then paint spraying with cans, could not help myself went over & said it is obvious you have never done this before, guided them to get the stencil up spray it best ya can ... one time come back & use latex & brush it on ...was amazed they accepted my advice & a thank you.

I did this seven years ago, was told to use basic acrylic paint that you'd use in a school art class and was very skeptical about it. Now the awnings are looking old and shabby but the paint (brushed on) still looks like it was applied yesterday.

In fabric awning you need to use a special film that is "cooked on" as we clal it by a large heat press. This stuff is thick and expensive. I usually scour the internet for closeouts on this, it only comes in white. After it is applied you can lay any 3M 7125 vinyl on top of that and heat press it down. When this Sunbrella system first came out you did not need this "special vinyl" but they the 7125 just stated falling off, which sunbrella nor Glen Raven did not stand behind (of course).

I like this graphics system but I do thing it's odd how it will only accept 3M products and how damn high those products are.

FabTak stencil and acrylic paint... and not artists paint but exterior acrylic paint.

Sunbrella, like any outdoor fabric (or decent interior paint) is treated with things to make it stain/mildew/mold resistant. This usually means your normal vinyl doesn't stick to it very well.

I have used it, works great. Adheres great. As a fabric/cloth, will last and not crack and has been up for years. Not sure if the awning material brand was Sunbrella, but I've used it on two different awnings with success.

Many Many Many years ago (when I was new to vinyl) I used Oracal 651 on a canvas awning that had been painted. I stuck it on heated it used a homemade roller(this was before the rollie pro) when cool pulled the medium tack transfer paper heated it again and rolled it again.

The graphics lasted over 4 years in florida weather some even faced south and no problems (even hurricane winds over 100mph they were still there)

Not the right way to do it but it worked and worked well but the key was that the awning had been painted with oil based paint.

+1 for the sailmakerssupply material. I've had it up on an awning for over two years and still looks great.

Any suggestion for transfer tapes when using this Insignia Cloth?

Wow, I've been cutting sail cloth for years for a local sailmaker and never thought to try this on Sunbrella. I will have to give this a try.

There is a product specified for Sunbrella Fabrics. It is called SGS TDPF. It is available in white and new for this year black. The white is printable on most latex, solvent and eco-solvent machines. It should be available from the same people that you purchase your Sunbrella from. If not, call a local TriVantage warehouse. Yes, it is heat activated, but it works better than the 3M 7125.
