Cutting a Bigfoot Figure

3Dsigns

New Member
This is a foam cutting contraption I built a number of years ago. I used it to cut 3D letters and a monument sign. Now it's just sitting there in the shop but I want to dust it off and use it to cut a 10 ft tall "bigfoot". I was of thinking of cutting the front view from one vector image, turning it 90 degrees and cutting the profile side from another. This would save me alot of time so I could work on details by hand. Is there any reason it would not work? This is my machine.......

That's what I would do to start blocking in shapes. I used to be a scenic sculptor/painter back in the day. My tools of choice were a long, super sharp filet knife, saws-all, small scraper/grater. I tended to avoid any hot-wire mechanisms for the most part, since I worked in a not-very-well-ventilated area. Before CNC-type cutters, I would use an overhead projector of the shapes and project it onto the foam block from the front, then from the side. I'd love to see the finished product!
