Cutting Master is made by SAI, the makers of Flexi. If you are working out of Flexi ok, continue to work from there.
Could be a number of issues going on, but usually uninstalling and reinstalling should clear up the problem.

I'm running v2.1.5 on my Mac just fine for a few years now. No problems at all.

You need to switch between HPGL and GPGL interfaces... GP-GL cuts from Illy, HP-GL to cut from Flexi.
