data issue?

My xj540 decided to add some grey to my hair today. I ran a normal clean no affect, manually cleaned the heads and cap tops nothing, changed the wipers for ****s and giggles nada, and checked data cables and they seem fine. So, where or what should I now check? Its more notciable in the black head but it is also going on with the light cyan just not as bad.

The first thing I would check is for physical damage on the bottom of the head. It looks like you have some cross contamination going on in the Cyan as well. If you haven't changed the cap tops in over a year or more, I would replace them. Cross contamination is usually caused by a bad/clogged cap top/pump tube.

Cap tops replaced in June and I poured a bit of cleaning solution on each cap top and they drained with no problem so I think that area is okay.

As far a damage to the head they were fine in test print yesterday before I ran a roll and a half through for yard signs and had no scuffs or strikes. I also think its something electrical because before this the only problem in test prints were a few deflected nozzles in the black. Now the LT. cyan and black are both doing missing or faint in the same spot.

Trade data cables with another head and see if the problem persists with black or transfers over to yellow or any of the other 3 colours.

...I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure that alone will tell you as to whether or not it's a data problem or physical problem. It really does look like physical damage though. Forgive my ignorance if this is not possible on your model, but it is on our SC540.

You've done pretty much everything I would have thought to check! If you rule out data all together, you might want to try a 24 hour head soak perhaps?

Good luck!

As long as ink is flowing through the maintenance station, you could be looking at electrical issues. You could do a data/cable swap to see if the problem follows the cables or the print head. If the problem moves to another print head, you probably have a damaged head cable, slider board and/or head board. If the problem stays with the original heads, the heads could just be bad. Check every connection for burn marks and/or ink debris. It might be as simple as cleaning dust out of the terminals.

I will take a closer look today. Another thought was maybe the left side dampers. I just think its strange for it to happen all of a sudden to two heads.
