Didn't expect this

I had my Jeep running about 10 minutes warming up as it had some snow on it. As I started down the road I took notice on my hood that where I had applied Oracal 651 to the hood there was still some snow just on the vinyl area while the rest of the hood was melted. I didn't think as thin as the vinyl is it would delay the heat from the engine enough to delay the melting. The effect from the drivers seat was more noticeable as you could really notice some height to the snow on the vinyl areas.

It's pretty cool looking

If the Jeep was sitting in the sun, this could also be partially caused by the difference between the sun's rays heating up the darker blue paint and being reflected off the white vinyl.

I'm guessing Mosh is getting coal tomorrow morning.

Nice assumptions there... maybe he knows what 651 is for and just used it for a temporary graphic on his Jeep until his new truck shows up next week. Naw... let's kick the new guy. Since he's only got 29 posts, he's gotta be a poser.

Appreciate the benefit of the doubt Team Valhalla. Posting on any forum with a low number of accumulated posts can make you a target and I expect that. The Jeep is 14 yrs old with a few rust spots and though it will fall apart before I sell it I am not going to use premium vinyl on a temporary gag graphic. What do I know though.

MtnView,

If you spend very much time at all on this site, you will find that it is sometimes not for the faint of heart.

The problem is that there are some who infiltrate the system and are here just to try and "get rich quick" or save a buck or two by doing things themselves verses going to someone who makes their living providing the service they are needing. Rightfully so, this rubs the fur of some the wrong way. But... some have knowledge and seem to have no desire to share that knowledge because they are afraid of what you may do with it.

There's a lot of people on this site that are very knowledgeable and have forgotten more than I will ever know. The majority of them are willing to share information... sometimes as long as they are approached correctly.

I have been given advice and read responses to other people's questions that have saved me both time and money - and for that I am very grateful. I'm sure though that with that gained knowledge and experience I pose absolutely no business threat to a single person on this site.

You'll have haters that will try and punish you for your quest for information. If you're a poser, they will find you, work you over, and be satisfied that they have succeeded when your equipment is auctioned off.

If you're in it for a purpose, this is the place to find the knowledge that you need to succeed. Make your choice.

I have a thick hide. I have read enough threads here to see the OP helped out and other times they are raked over the coals. I did mistype the material used though. Fat finger syndrome.

The real funny part is you weren't making any kind of complaint or statement about the quality or longevity of the material, just stating an observation that th snow melts quicker on paint than vinyl.

That crossed my mind as well Graphics2u. When you poke your head up out of the hole sometimes it gets taken off.
