Try copying the file on your desktop and open it from there. This way you'll know if the file or the disk is the problem.

It could be as simple as a communication error, in which case you MIGHT be able to copy the file to another drive, or the drive has issues and you may have lost it (sorry).

I have files as big as a half gig or more with upwards of 25-30 layers. I don't think that's the problem.

cannot complete your request because of a disk error

Is that the EXACT error? Is this the only file with the error?

If so, I would start looking at both the startup and scratch disks:

- Disk nearly full?
- Disk corruption? (Bad Sectors)
- Defragmented recently? (Scratch can only use non-fragmented space)
- Error during saving the file

I have no experience with that exact error, but that is where I would start looking.

in photoshop.. Sometimes you lose a file ,, you can get it backif you can find the "temp" file.
You just have to find out where psd is using the temp folder..
Very likely in the documents and settings folder somewhere ..

Oh yes,, do not let psd see it as a temp file or it will be gone..

Its best to save a new name every now and then. If you lose a file,, you can at least go back to an older version.
Such as job , job a, job b, job c etc..
