Do people not want a job?

the ones i hate are when you hire them and they say they have the experience and they dont know what the hell they are doing. All the good people are hired. The rest go from job to job and carrry drama with them where ever they go .

My philosophy is do not hire someone who doesnt already have a job. If they dont have a job there is probably a reason for it. Another thing we do is use a temp agency for the first 90 days. That way if it doesnt work out the temp agency gets to deal with the unemployment office and all the time consuming drama that goes with it.

They still gave him unemployment. Un-f'n-believable. At that very moment I lost what little faith I had left in me in the whole system.

We hired a secretary who started out very well. We needed her 40 hours a week. She was going to school at a local college at night when we hired her.

Within two weeks she told us she had to reschedule her schooling during the day and would be either leaving 2-3 hours early or starting 3-4 hours late three days a week. Crap. We desparately needed someone on the phone all day.

Then we were notified that she filed for unemployment saying that our owner cut her hours! She was the one who made her own schedule! She even scheduled herself a week's vacation less than two months on the job. She simply wrote it on the office calendar saying she'd already made plans.

Our bookkeeper and owner appealed to the unemployment people explaining the whole mess, giving them all the facts we had on hand. Still, she got the unemployment granted her.

So here she is, working for us on her own revised schedule, scheduling her own vacations and long weekends and getting unemployment claiming we cut her hours when in truth we were begging her to be at work more often.

In the end she quit by sending a text message saying, "You once told me that if I ever gave you a two-week notice that you'd fire me on the spot. So, I'm telling you in this message that as of today I quit."

We reeled over her audacity for weeks trying to figure out what the hell happened and how were we duped into that mess.

This whole subject sucks, bottom line. I have no idea how people think anymore. I have had people just stop showing up, not even comming back for a paycheck. Or I'll get the " I really need a job and I'm not afraid to work hard" then they have so many issues as to why they can't come to work or they are chronically late. Well if ya know your gonna hit traffic jackass then leave earlier....oh I didn't think of that...and they still continue to be late.

Nope, this is an entry level position. No experience required. The job's not hard. We pay a couple bucks above minimum wage, offer medical, dental, vision, 401k, vacation and sick pay.

That said, excel at it, and we are more than willing to compensate for ability & desire to work. The more money you make for me, the more money I pay you. Simple as that.

maybe it's just me but anything from craigslist seems to be connected to the dregs of the earth so I'm not suprised that when employment is advertised on it that those same dregs answer the ads. is there a good job finder site in your area? you might want to try that and not be grouped in on the same site that has such a bad rep.

We had a lady here for a few months last summer. She claimed she was "computer savvy". Well, I ended up doing everything on the computer for her, fixing stuff when it broke, and the days that she was just "here" to answer phones, and take care of walk-ins when we would be out...SHE WOULD FORGET TO UNLOCK THE DOOR! I can barely understand forgetting once, but she did it like...THREE times! Needless to say, she didn't last long.

In the last 18 months we have had about a dozen people walk in looking for work. Most of them just ask if we are hiring. Some of them are not very good at that.

Only one brought in a resume. At least she was prepared.

We had 2 people that came in together looking for work. I guess they were a package deal.

We did advertise for an outside sales position and had someone respond with his requirements. One of them was a company supplied auto with insurance. He did include that he had no sales experience.

Shoot, I'd fire my whole crew but I don't make enough to draw unemployment so I have to keep working  Wouldn't qualify for welfare either if I were to apply as I'm too poor! And yes, I'm a one man operation.

So, I just opened up the hunting and fishing supply end of the business and take everyone else's welfare and unemployment money! :clapping:

I get several stopping by to ask if I can be used as a reference for their unemployment :banghead:

Bless there hearts, it's a tough job, sitting on the porch eating cheetos waiting for the mailman to show up. Hurry up people, we got more Obama Care to pay for!!!
I think I'll denounce my citizenship, go to Mexico, and then come back for free.

Doesn't surprise me in the least!

In our early years my husband worked full-time and went to college part-time. The company he worked for was bought out and all the employees were let go. In line at the unemployment office, he was talking to people about all the interviews he’s gone out on, they laughed at him and said “you don’t really have to look for a job, they never call to check.” All of them had been on unemployment for months, one guy said had several extensions. He couldn’t believe they were talking like that, right there in the unemployment office.

Those guys were in and out in no time. They kept my husband for over an hour while they called every business on his list. ALL legit! Then they denied him, said he had to drop out of college to prove he was willing to take work anytime of day. He said he would changes is class to fit any work schedule... NO DEAL... said he had to bring back proof that he totally dropped out, to be reconsidered!

It's pretty sad that our system is set up to encourage and perpetuate the professionally unemployed!
