These letters were removed from a 10 or 12 story building... Looks like the letters just sat over the wall. Is that how they get those things up there?

Yep, they built those square tubing stringers to attach letters to and hung them over the parapet wall. Probably ran wires, if letters were lit, thru tubing and securely attached tubing to other side of parapet. Building probably did not want holes drilled in walls for various reasons, like bank changing names, so they devised a structure like you see.

Pretty neat idea! Yea, they JUST put those letters up a year or two ago.. and they are lit.
