doing a google search for your company...

today I did a search for our company and what I found was pretty scary. if you don't do one regularly, I would suggest that you do as the info I found was almost all wrong. we pay a company to take care of this. it turns out that if you do a click here to go to the website when looking up a company, they change your webpage contact info to phone numbers that aren't yours but will ring in your shop. they do that to track how many use their pages. we didn't know that and when we started getting calls for a medical supplier in VA, it turns out these guys gave us the medical suppliers old bogus toll free number. then I found out they put up a youtube video. OMG! they have the worst, horrid signs I have ever seen on it so it looks like me made those things. the one posted is just one of the beauties. some pages have all our info with the bogus phone numbers they made up to track traffic but have us as being long distant truckers...ugh

take a few minutes and check out your own company to make sure all your info is correct as just paying someone isn't enough

superpages set up what people see when they do a search for us thru google, bing, yahoo and such. under those, I clicked on all the results on the page to see what came up. it was there that I found some strange stuff. citysearch, youtube, and places like that. the youtube was put together by superpages with the most horrid sign photos I've ever seen (like the one posted) with our name over laid over their superpages logo. then there was the link that said we were a freight/cargo company. another had our "brand" as being International Harvester. it is amazing how far off they are

I'm with Craig on this one...

Our web page is simple, yet informative and most importantly 100% ours. We do occasional "g" searches for our web info and it always comes back solid.

If you aren't doing Ecommerce on your site, keep it simple and upload your sitemap to Google so they can crawl your site more often for changes and new content. Then take control of your Google places page, which is free, and keep it up to date. That should make at least the first few search results accurate.

Also, if you aren't doing any Ecommerce and your site is more informational, you really don't need to pay someone to handle SEO. I am no web expert but I handle all of our SEO without any training or education on the matter. All of the info they use to charge you for their services is available online if you take the time to research it.

our webpage is fine, it is all the search info that comes up with issues. our webpage is simple and we don't do orders from it. if you enter vermont sign companies and click on a link to us there, that's when things go wonky. also if you enter the company name into a search and click something like yellow pages then click on the webpage link on that where issues have come up.

We ran into the same problem. They gave us a number of an older bankruptcy company. They were still advertising the number I had so I was getting calls left and right for that.
They also made a new site that was horrific. I ended up having them mirror our site.

Funny you mention this. I am on the other side of this I have a few different websites and my latest I had to use twillio. What it does is give you a phone number and you can track it. Probably much like the one you were talking about. This one is permanent and we pay, I think around 5 bucks a month. The reason we used it because if I use the same number on to many different sites google doesn't like that. Google prefers everything unique to the individual site. We even used my friends address, all on the up and up, but just to make sure everything is unique.

This is very true. I was quickly googled a client just last week to get their phone number and found that someone had left a very negative review for them in google plus. They clearly weren't aware of it as it was dated 3 years back. I'm sure you can delete those, or at least explain yourself, but they had done neither. God knows how many potential clients that review had turned away.

I am doing my best to get this cleaned up and was told by superpages that it would take a while as it involves about 300 pages, great. they at least got rid of the toll free number that belonged to the medical supply place so those calls stopped. what bother me is now we have to worry about someone who did a search, wrote down a bogus number in their records and when they call it, it will be some poor other smuck that has no idea these people are doing this
