Doing Biz in the PRC (People's Republic of California)

I just renewed my biz license and there was a $4 fee for disability access. Hmm. Ok but why does the state need that money. So looking at it al little more in detail I can only figure that it is to fund distribution of marijuana to those with prescriptions. It references SB 1186 but there seem to be amendments to that which creates the $4 tax (fee in government terms). This is in addition to the $7 per employee tax (fee in government terms) to provide training to the unemployed (yes, each employed person you have makes you responsible for training an unemployed person) and the $800 minimum tax (yes they call that one a tax) for the privilege of doing business in The PRC. Add on to that that the PRC can come into your business at any time and assess your assets to charge a fee (tax) on anything they think you have not purchased and paid a sales tax on.

So when your city has previous PRC companies relocating to your neck of the woods, now you know why.

I am not from the US, but a few seconds of searching I managed to dig this up...

https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180AB1379 it states that the fee is to be used for training and certification of 'access specialists' in regard to accessibility requirements in construction.

(b) (1) The city, county, or city and county shall retain the percentage of the fees collected under this section as specified in paragraph (2), of which up to 5 percent of the retained moneys may be used for related administrative costs of this chapter. The city, county, or city and county shall deposit the remaining moneys in a special fund, established by the city, county, or city and county to be known as the “CASp Certification and Training Fund.” The moneys in the fund shall be used for increased certified access specialist (CASp) training and certification within that local jurisdiction and to facilitate compliance with construction-related accessibility requirements. The highest priority shall be given to the training and retention of certified access specialists to meet the needs of the public in the jurisdiction as provided in Section 55.53 of the Civil Code.

I don't see any references to marijuana in the bill.

The reference you found is the original and was a $1 fee. The fee was increased to $4. Now, since you brought this up I went back and looked and what I think is happening is every so many years they start the bill numbers over again. So the current SB 1186 is for what I referenced about MJ. Either way, paying $4 extra on my biz license when I get nothing for it is stupid.

then move. So they raised their prices $4/year? Do you live in a hole in the ground? The cost of doing business has went up and I am pretty sure that includes the costs of local governments. 4 dollars. You are just trying to bait a political argument, I think that most people are over it and have moved on to getting a life.
