there is a lot of that here on 101 between us "old timers" and the up n comers. they come here looking for help because they have no idea what they got themselves into.............THEN get really hostile when not only 1, but 5 people tell them how they delt with same problems in this business YEARS AGO......but i guess its just me gettin old huh?
respect is EARNED!!! nowhere in any work place are you going to get INSTANT RESPECT because you ARE THERE. you got to remember ......YOU, AINT THAT IMPORTANT!!! only YOU THINK YOU ARE. old saying about respect i alway carried with me from when it was told to me as a kid: you give respect to those who command it, never to those who DEMAND it.

Ditto Paint, Ditto. Any new guys I sit them down for two days with my brushes and have them paint small signs by hand. If they hang in there, whether they can do the job or not, I introduce them to cutters and printers. They usually get the message. If they want a job, the first week is intern but I usually pay them anyway.

It's better to have two hands than one glove.
Respect is earned not issued.

When you enter my world you start out with none. What level of respect you earn depends entirely on how you act, not who you are, not for apparently being human, not anything except what you do and how you do it. How you act includes how you work your mouth and the implicit thought processes, if any, behind the noises you make.

Everyone, from the galactic overlord to the meanest rag picker gets treated exactly the same.

All within EARSHOT of a customer?? Maybe that's the disrespect he meant? If so, I may agree.

Would have to disagree. The guy making the compliment also made the statement to the effect of "you seem to be a conscientious employee...". He was speaking in a normal conversational tone and obviously trying to be helpful. I personally would have appreciated the remark being made to me. I think the guy offering the suggestion was a friendly sort who was honestly trying to help the young man. The young man was one of the sort I readily stereotype as one who believes simply by being born he was due more than a modicum of respect from the rest of humanity. I detest that attitude - having experienced it over and over while being the oldest worker in the custom paint department of a motorcycle manufacturing company. There were guys there who threw out that "don't disrespect me" line at every opportunity in response to any suggestion made to them. It seems to be a generational thing. I'd personally like to put a boot up their *** as a gesture of the respect I feel they are due.
