Maybe they should have tried that Hexis Wrap material. That has some serious stretch potential. Plus, you'd think they'd have the bottom of the barrel heated with like an infrared heater to evenly heat the material. That way you could just plunge dip the helmet instead of forcing it like that with uneven heating from the backside.

Come to think of it, you probably could use a thermoforming machine and actually be able to pull this off.

If they used a barrel about twice that diameter I think it would work like a champ with proper heating.

Quit buggin' me
The way that stuff snapped I wonder if they were using an intermediate calendared vinyl. Printed cast is more gummy/stetchy & when it blows out it doesn't seem to break clean like that.
I haven't tried this barrel idea so I could be wrong.

I was thinking the same thing Wayne, almost looks like a water based adhesive, any wrap material I've ever used has a dark grey solvent based glue.

Ouch! Makes my ribs hurt. lol I have seen others do this in the same manner but one critical difference, stick the heat gun on the hole that you cut in the side of the drum and heat the vinyl from below until is it literally hanging down some first. And as mentioned - using the right type of vinyl would probably help. Have not tried to wrap a helmet myself, cannot say I'm particularly interested in trying for that matter.

Yeah, I don't think that was cast... but definitely not heated up enough. Here's how a professional does it:

"it's just a sticker", looks like it worked to me, didn't see a finished product though.

The easy way is NOT always the right way, sometimes you have to do the work!

The Rheem helmet is nuts. Couldn't that have been airbrushed faster? Granted I know they probably had to do multiple helmets and once you do it one, you have your template but that just looked painfully time consuming.

HAHAHAHA!

We did try the trash can method with a helmet like these guys did, but we did use alot of heat and avery wrap film. Problem is the visor and chin guard they are not round like the pro in the other video. So we wrapped the helmet in 5 pieces / layers.
