Dry erase

I have a customer wanting a very large map printed on paper/card stock with a vinyl over-laminate. They also need the vinyl to work with dry erase markers. So my question I have is would any clear calendered gloss over-laminate work with dry erase markers? I've used dry erase markers before on calendered vinyls and it does erase, but I'm not so sure it will erase if it's left on for several days, weeks, or months. Has anyone had any experience with this that could possibly make suggestions as to what laminate would work for dry erase applications?

It will work fine, I used my standard gloss lam on my 4x8 work board and it has held up fine for years.

I will add this.... I ran a couple of dry erase boards for a local restaurant and I called them after a few days to see how the board was working. They said that the ink was not coming off 100% and it was leaving a shadow. Concerned I called a customer I do work for who does a lot of dry erase boards for car rental companies and he said.... I bet they are using EXPO markers on them, which I replied yes. he said that they always cause problems, even with the expensive porcelain boards..... That was news for me and I instructed the customer to go out and get Quartet markers or Staedtler markers....good luck

just bought a roll of Bigfish's purpose built dry erase lam. very nice to work with and the $$ was awesome.

We have three different types of dry erase laminates that we stock here. A few common names of the products are anti graffiti/hard coat, thermal dry erase/thermal opp film, and psa dry erase/Psa opp film. Opp film is the most common type of laminate used for dry erase application. In a nut shell it is less porous than other laminates. After time the opp dry erase will scuff from paper towels or the eraser. This will cause staining/ghosting. Anti graffiti laminate is top of the line for dry erase. The surface of the laminate is treated to help repel solvent ink or spray paint. If use a little alcohol or naphtha it will take the spray paint or a sharpie maker off.

If you or your customers are having trouble getting old dry erase marker off a dry erase board or dry erase laminate, use a dry erase marker to scribble over the area you need to clean then wipe it off. The solvent in the marker will dissolve the residue.
