e-mail on the network

The Problem... we keep all our e-mail on 1 pc. We prefer not to keep it on the host server since I'm sure there is some limits about size and then have to sign in every time someone wants to check e-mail

We have just a few people that need to do e-mail, but it's a constant problem because there is always a bottleneck at the computer that holds all the mail.

So, what I'm looking for is a way to work with e-mail from any computer on the network, but use just the main folder, like we do with Flexi where all the files are held in one location and everybody can read and write to it.

We use Mozilla Thunderbird but would be open to go back to Outlook

I've searched Google and Mozilla help can't find much help

Anyone doing this or know where I can start ?

Thanks

We use Google too. It's been great, and we can access from our phones without any issues. We run Outlook on our desktops, but you can also log in via the webserver from any computer.

before you "assume" there are some imaginary limits that would hamper you, why don't you find out what they are....

i can't fathom worring about keeping everyone's email on one computer.....?why?

step into this century and let everyone have email on their machine....

I have to agree with ddarlak here,...with gmail and google, yahoo and several others offering upwards of 10gb free mail server space why would anyone ever worry about space on somebody elses server? If you keep all your email on one machine and that machine downloads a virus in an attachment,(don't try to tell me you have such and such virus scanner running as I have to remove malware and rootkits and virii from machines that were running good anti virii programs all the time)it is already on your machine,...not on some remote mail server out there in cyber space,..every time the hacks write a new line of malicious code and send it to about a gazilion users out there there is a time between when they write it and when the anti virus people actually find it and do something about it that leaves any mail server and or client vulnerable,..if you get caught in this twilight time zone you and your email(maybe even your machine and network) are screwed,...the only consistant way around this is to read your email off of some remote server and let them deal with the problem on their end. that way the only time you chance having to deal with a problem is when you actually download an infected file and that chance is closed to nill. Been using yahoo mail for over 8 years and still have all my mail on their server and haven't had one problem with a virus in my email. I can go back and search correspondence for any time frame in that period and find it when the need arises and still have tons of space left on their machine.

With one email used for all designers for business purpose, everyone knows and can check on the communications with every client.

If Bob has his own email, he is working on XYZ job, and he is out sick or not available, XYZ called for the progress of their job, you would have to get back with them when you can get hold of Bob.

OK, point taken on the Google thing

Can I assume that Google would be the same as keeping the mail on the host server somewhere on the internet now, or am I missing something your telling me.

I just thought it would be slow in retrieving it

I'll do some experimenting with it

Thanks

As far as I know all ISP's offer webmail! The big differences in the amount of space they alow you to use.

We use gmail....I'm just wondering how long it's going to be before Google starts charging a subscription for all the "services they offer".

That is why you have all business emails forward to a Catch all account. This way one person can always have emails available. Also a good help if you accidentally erase an important email.

Catch all account

great idea. i have a few email accounts with 100's of MG of free space i'm not using.

great way to utilized online backup of my emails.

rather than make a catch all, i'll make an account and copy every email address to this one.

i like having the catch all on my account, sometimes you get lucky and get an email that was not correct

These are exactly the 2 problems I'm trying to avoid

This could be something I'm looking for... but what about the sent mail. Can I forward it to the catch all somehow ?

They do - We use Google Apps and it costs, but is worth every cent, havent looked back since adopting it about a year ago.

Our mail server is now a good boat anchor
