Edge 2 "Problem"

So the Edge 2 was working fine on Friday. Now today I fire it up and start running a job and it stops randomly for a short time every once in a while. Sometimes it continues to make a noise when it stops and sometimes it doesn't make any noise.

I wouldn't really consider this a problem right now as I was able to complete the job I was working on, however it has never done this before and it did it for 5 colors in a row.

Here's video/audio of the problem:

Any advice at all would be appreciated. Thanks all. :)

Mine has always done that. If you open your spooler, you will be able to watch portions of the job being spooled when that happens. Tony might have some explanation.

Head bathroom cleaner.
look at your settings on the job. when its set to 300 X 600dpi it will usually pause. when set to 300 X 300 it will not. IMO it is a memory issue AKA there is not enough internal memory to handle the packet size at higher resolution.

That must be it Mike, something must have happened to my ICC profile for 300x300 because now it's missing and my only option is 300x600. Sometimes when a profile is corrupted FlexiSign just ups and deletes it. :(

It almost looks like the edge is "data starved" but you mentioned in the video that you can hear a noise I'm going to assume this is the foil take up motors.

First try making a spool file from with in GspPlot (File/Save as Spool File) this puts everything that needs to be printed and cut into a single file. Then try printing that file from GQMgr (File/ Open to Print)

If it still does it, if you take the foil out after a printed color does it look like more foil was used that should have been?

I pointed the video to a number of people, I'll see what they say and report back.

FYI - Without making a spoolfile what we normally do is make "mini" data files to GQmgr i.e. A vinyl select, data for foil #1, data for foil #2,....., data for last foil.

In other words we are trying to get the Edge to start printing right away and continue to "rip" the rest of the file. We do NOT do this for the FX, it is all one file.

When you save as a spool file all the ripping is done and all the "mini" file are placed into one file.

So when ripping and printing at the same time something else could be going on in the system background i.e. a virus scan, etc that is stealing time from the "rip" causing the Edge to wait for data, thus the pause.

Not actually being there and knowing your system this is my best guess.

Watching the video - And when they say "it's not making that noise now", there was a vinyl move just before that happened. The Edge 2 finished the current repeat, lifted and advanced past the weed border and x-gap, and waited for more data to start the next repeat.

Everyone so far agrees it's "data starved"
