Edge curling on substrates

Please know I tried to find a history for this and could not. I have emailed Fred to ask what I am doing wrong in search mode, but I kinda need an answer quickly. Any guidance is appreciated.

I went to a new customers site, he wants some new signage to replace his old signage (obviously). I would say the current signage is a couple of years old. It is basically a 4x8 print on lumilite. All of the edges were curled, it just seems to me that those should have lasted a little bit longer. Is there anything that can be done to stop that from happening?

Is it laminated?
Is there heavy ink around the edges?
Can you tell if they stretched it?
It could be many different things. They could of put it on with rapid tac and no application tape and stretched it. They could have trimmed it while the print was wet. It could of been old or bad vinyl.
All I would worry about is installing it correctly. I print mine a little oversized and file the edges off. I rarely use alumilite anymore. If you can decide, I would opt for something like "max metal" you can get it through Grimco for around $40. It is much easier to work with, it's stronger, and it doesn't dent if you lean your elbow into it.

print it as a 52 x 100 and wrap on to the back the extra 2 inches on each side.

this is used often by us depending on how/where the sign is being mounted how it is mounted to the substrate also plays a factor, i.e. if it was wet stuck and the ratio was off then that will curl the edges
