Edge Original - stretching the punched holes

We have an original Edge and the unit is now stretching the punched holes along the top and bottom of a roll of 15 inch vinyl.
W/o having to take the unit in for adjustment - is there anyone who has had a similar issue with their Edge and what was the solution.
Thanks.

The most common causes for this are:

  • Adhesive residue on the sprocket pins.
  • The sliding sprocket and bail needs cleaning and lubrication.
  • The foil drive clutches are slipping creating excessive drag of the foil on the vinyl when printing.

Pretty sure that's a factory repair ... check with your GSP distributor to be sure. Definitely clean and lube the stainless pins that the sprocket and bail slide on though. This is more effective than you might think.

Sometimes this happens to us when we run non-Gerber or "Edge Ready" material. The hole pattern is close, but not quite right. If you haven't changed to an off brand material though, it's probably in line the suggestions above.

We even get it sometimes with Gerber material here... just had it happen with a 50yd roll of 280 white yesterday.
We unwound the roll and rolled it backwards on another core, it printed fine from that end of the roll. Once we hit the bad again, we'll send that part of the roll in for a replacement.
(This is all when the holes are stretched in lengthwise direction)

If you're using the wrong setting, every now and then the "printhead" will drag a bit too much on the material and cause a similar situation, try telling the machine that you're using regular 220 white and regular foil colors, and see if it still happens.

is it the same if you let the Edge pull the material from the roll or when you unwind a bunch of vinyl so it just guides it thru without having to pull? if it is the same either way, most likely something wrong if different, look into the what you use to hold the roll as it might be causing way too much tension and not unrolling properly
