encoder strip lens

how do you clean the encoder strip lens? Ive been having a problem with my jv3 160sp printer. Its printing but print lean and distorted. i was told by the tech to clean the encorder strip which i did and it start work back some what but i think the lens is dirty too cause is hasnt been clean from i bought it over a year ago and i notice that the the print will start of good then start to lean and then straighten up. (what a stress)
Need to know how to clean the Lens and if there is any other reason that could cause this problem

thanks

i'd blast it with one of those computer cleaners from an office supply store (air in a can).

You could probably use a microfiber lens cleaning cloth (the kind for glasses) but I haven't tried it. Use compressed air first as artbot suggests.

swabs and 50% isopropyl alcohol... don't use your cleaning solvent, as it will destroy your encoder strip.

I''ll come do it for you... Went to Jamaica on my Honeymoon a year ago, and It was the Time of my life.

thanks for the info. i cleaned both the lens and the strip and my print still leans toward the right. running out of options, any suggestions?

I have a different printer (Mutoh) but had the same problem. except my strip had a defect on it and found out the strip was 350.00 check your strip for defects. I flipped my strip vertically and viola works great now.

thanks. i was thinking it must be a defective strip cause everything else is working fine and it has been cleaned a couple of times. About flipping vertical i didn't know that was possible will try that first before purchasing a new one

I Flipped it and it printing worse now so i diffiniatly think its the strip, but when you install it do you need to adjust anything or you put it in and that is it? does it have to be in a straight line? and does there has to a strong tension on it?
thanks

make sure your bottom rail is aligned with the encoder strip... there is an indent on the support bracket for th the rail that has a notch out of the bottom of it the bottom of the encoder strip should be in line with that notch... it has either a phillips or a an allan key holding this to the chassis of the printer
i had this problem until i adjusted this
