Encoder strip

The SP540V is starting to act a little hinky.
From reading all of the informative posts on the forum,
I think it's time to replace the encoder strip.

GSG wants $240.
Seems a little spendy to me.
Didn't I read on one of the posts that
the encoder strip was about $40+?
Could be wrong.

Who's a good source for one?

Might be an obvious question but have you tried cleaning it?

Tried cleaning it.
Been cleaning it.
The printer is 4+ years old.
Probably past time for a new one.

You should be able to buy a longer strip and cut it down and it will work. At least it worked on the older Roland CJ 500. This is coming from another member who did do this. So there is a cheaper way. You may need to make your own holes to connect it.

I had been originally told that "only the one meant for that Printer would work". This became a not so true statement.

Also you can flip them over so the bottom becomes the top and get more life out of the strip.

Also make sure that where the censor is that reads the strip is not dirty or has fuzz caught against it. I have had to blow mine out with compressed air and it fixed the randome lines in the print thing that was going on.

Ours was around $175 I think.... a year ago.

I cleaned it really well again and my
hinkyness is gone (for the time being).

Maybe, I can make it 'til Christmas and Santa will bring me one.

Yep, I'd called earlier this morning and they told me $269.00. But they can be cleaned and restored that way. There's a lot of "spatter" or "overspray" going on in an SP Roland. So they do get dirty.
