envision cutting strip

I have a 15" envision cutter for my Edge LE and as of lat when it cuts straight cuts along the bottom of vinyl it is shearing right through the backing paper at times or you can hear it is cutting therough to the paper and no where else does it do this. I see there is a white cutting strip and wondered if it is replaceable. I tlooks identical to the one I had on our old Allen Data Graph. Anyone know the cost of these gizmos and if this might be the culprit?

Yes they are a consumable sold by your Gerber distributor. I typically replace mine twice a year. The primary concern when you do so if to clean the cavity of glue residue before putting the replacement strip in place.

In addition to a worn strip, it also sounds like you may have your knife blade sticking out too far. It shouldn't be able to reach far enough to cut any deeper than the thickness of the vinyl.

Kinda off topic but does all cutting stripes pretty much work on any cutter machines? I mean i can't see much more than the length being different.

I once read about someone here using sand blast vinyl to replace the stripe. haven't tried it yet, but I will.

while many manufactures re-brand (the gerber tempo is a graphtec Ce5000) you want to use the cutting strip that is designed for your plotter. some of them will be of varying thicknesses, or sizes, and you want to ensure a proper fit. that being said, you can save some money buy buying a 60" strip for your 30" inch plotter and cutting it in half :)
