EPS Files

I have an issue importing EPS files into Corel Draw 12. I get very mixed results. Sometimes I import and get a nice vector file. Sometimes I get a low res raster file. Other times I just get a big grey box. In each of these situations I am being told by the sender that these were all vector files. Is there something I need to do differently to import EPS files? Its must be something I am doing wrong and something very basic but I can't figure it out. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Try selecting EPS AI as your import filter type instead of leaving it at All Types. If you have a bad import then try again using the Postscript Interpreted as the file type.

and if that doesn't work, try telling your customer that they are mistaken and it isn't a vector file... just because .eps files CAN be vector, doesn't mean they ARE... and in the last 20-some years... the percentage of files that aren't... is WAAAYYYY higher then the percentage of clients who realize, or understand that they aren't.

Thanks

Thanks for the input guys. I cant seem to find in AI EPS selection in the drop down menu so I couldn't try that. I tried the povstscript interpreted selection and that gave me an error. This particular file I am trying opens when I import it as usual but it says its an EPS file 72 x 72 DPI in the object detail section and does not open as a vector yet my customer claims it is definitely a vector file. I don't want to tell them it is not as I am by no means an expert with EPS files but it appears to me that they do not understand what a vector file is. Is it possible for me to mistakenly open a true vector EPS as a low res raster file?

Thanks again guys

"have you tried opening it in a lower version of corel or in a different program completely??"

No I only have version 12. I have sign lab on my computer running the vinyl cutter so I will try that in a bit. My 8 year old wants McDonalds so I have to run for now but will definitley be looking on here when I get back.

I went straight from Corel 8 to Corel X3, so I can't say as to the drop down menu names in version 12. In Corel X3, the AI - EPS filter reads "AI - Adobe Illustrator". When selected it still will see and open Illustrator EPS files. Look to see if that is there and try it.

Next best guess is that your EPS file was saved in too high a version for Corel 12 to be able to open correctly.

still doesn't work

I do have an "AI - adobe illustrator" selection in the dropdown menu but I get an incorrect file format error when I try to import this way. Would anyone be willing to try to open this file quick and see if you can get it to open in a vector format? It doesn't appear that EPS is a valid file extension to post on here so I would have to e-mail it.

GVP was nice enough to try to open my file. He used Corel X3 and was able to open my EPS while maintaining the vector format. When I opened with Corel 12 I could only open as a low res. raster file. I guess its time to upgrade. Thanks again GVP.
