Epson 9700

I have a 9700 stylus pro for about a year. Heavy use. Dye inks from the first day. If i print a big red poster, over 2x1m, sometimes magenta will dissapear after print over 1,5 meters. Both magenta channels, or only one. I have a spare cart, i replace it, all was good till yesterday, when it happened again. I have cleaned the caping station and was able to finish 2 posters 2x1 meters without problem, but i,m shure it will happen again. With the first cart i can see there was alot of air in the magenta pipe, and only a power clean can solve it. With the seccond cart only one magenta chanel was missing, i have not seen air in the pipe. Can it be the dumper? If it is air leak, how can i detect the hole?

Since the Epson 9700 comes with UltraChrome pigment ink, can we assume you are using third party dye inks in your printer?

Yes. I was filling the printer with dyes on day one. March last year. No problems so far. Except the one mentioned above. Or it can be the carts. The rubber where the carts connects to printer is not sealing properly anymore?

It may be the dampers. Just check the serviceman manual and there also suggests the dampers failure. It is more difficult to change dampers than my roland's, but not impossible. I'll give it a try.

If you're reusing the cartridges the o-ring or the rubber seal at the cartridge might be gone and you might be sucking air into the ink line right from the cartridge. Air can only get in from either end of the delivery system. If it's not the cartridge seal, it will be the damper seal.

I am facing exactly similar problem with Magenta! How did you solve the problem?? was this an air in the ink system issue??I am using dye inks too with heavy usage on daily basis.After a lot of cleanings the magenta starts giving full nozzle check.However after 15 square feet of printing it starts giving banding in the print and one of the channels fails....

It was the pigmented ink fault. Not compatible with the head or dampers, who knows... Get back to dyes and it is perfect again. If you have dyes in your printer (not sublimation dyes witch are also thick inks even thicker than pigments) it may be a cartridge fault. I usualy don't use carts with bags. Just one, once, and it gives me air in the ink pipes.

I just got my new Epson installed, and Im planning to stay on the Epson inks just for the first year of warranty and then buy an CISS. Is there any supplier do you recommend?

Should I buy an extension warranty service?

Maybe Cone inks, or Image Specialists. About waranty, i don't know. It is up to you, up to your technical abilities.

why bother w CISS? Just stick some refillable carts - they go for $60 a piece, you need only 4 - you can leave the MK where it is - the chip resetter is about $80 - you need 2 - one for carts and the another for waste tank - you can actually "refill" the waste tank.
